NASA DEVELOPMENT BLUEPRINT SPECIFIC TO EACH REGION IN KENYA, A GOOD IDEA.

NASA DEVELOPMENT BLUEPRINT SPECIFIC TO EACH REGION A GOOD IDEA.

By Armstrong K. Abala.

The decision by the National Super Alliance (NASA) to have different developmental frame work for the different regions in Kenya is very smart bearing in mind that each region has a certain major problem that they encounter.

In the last 50 and over years since Kenya started self-rule, there are several regions that have been left behind in development with few regions that have been associated to the top leadership of the nation getting slightly ahead of the rest.

It is in this light that the NASA idea of clustering regions per the major problems and underdevelopment is a nice and wise move.

It would be meaningless to compare the North eastern or the Turkana part of Kenya to the Western part of the central part of Kenya, since they totally have different underdevelopment and/or different needs that they need solved.

For example, NASA began by officially launching the Western Region Investment Plan which seeks to:
1.Revive agricultural sector by spurring production through improved husbandry practices and access to quality and affordable and available inputs.
2.Develop community-owned youth-driven value addition agricultural and extractive industries in the region
3.Establish a dry port in the region and establish market linkages with the rest of the country and region into the Great Lakes and beyond.
4.Facilitate access to friendly credit and financial services and cancel financial burdens visited on the community by AFC loans and others and create a new beginning.
5. Diversity and harness cultural and sports talents among youth of the region and build strong eco-tourism platforms.

These are the major things that are needed by the western region to steer development and inclusivity in the region.

It is prudent that they do the same to all the regions as they have promised to enable them to address each problem that is affecting the whole country in an equal and fair manner.

I believe that if implemented, this kind of an idea will bring the whole country to the same level of development without leaving any region behind.

This kind of thinking is what has been missing in our country Kenya, otherwise we would have developed each part of the Country and we would be at per. Go NASA Go!
